Democrat voters do not like Tulsi Gabbard, that’s not a secret.

She is, however, very popular with independent voters who dislike the establishment on both sides of the aisle.

Tulsi is anti-war, and rather moderate on social issues. She appeals to a wide range of “swing” voters who may feel disenfranchised with the status quo politicians.

Many people are perplexed as to why Hillary attacked Tulsi, calling her a “Russian asset” and catapulting the “nobody” politician into the mainstream spotlight. After all, she was no threat to any of the current Dems – her polling average is about 1.2 percent.

So, why would Hillary go after her and cause Republicans and Independents to jump to her defense?

One Twitter user has a theory, and it’s an interesting one.

What if the Democrats plan to run Tulsi as an “independent” in 2020 in hopes of siphoning independent swing votes from President Trump?

Don’t believe this “wacky” theory?

Well, take a look at this little tidbit from Independent Voter News that shows just how much independents like Tulsi Gabbard.

What we do know, however, is that independent-minded voters will make the difference in 2020.

Last week, IVN surveyed its own audience to see who they approved of in the 2020 election. Full disclosure: this was not a scientific poll. We simply sent a survey to some of our readers asking them to select any of the presidential candidates they might support.

We used what is called an “approval voting” method, which means that survey respondents could select as many candidates as they wanted, rather than just one.

There were 871 completed survey responses. The top three vote-getters were US Sen. Bernie Sanders, Hawaii US Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, and the incumbent President Donald Trump. US Sen. Elizabeth Warren, “Other,” US Sen. Kamala Harris, and Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz followed the lead. [Independent Voter News]

Could indy voters who aren’t so “hip” on Trump be inclined to vote for Tulsi as an alternative? Especially if she continues to get attention and empathy from Trump supporters and the right-wing media?

As it stands now, Tulsi is being hailed a “hero” for that brutal takedown of Hillary Clinton…But is she?

It’s an interesting theory to consider.

Of course, Tulsi has said she has no intention of running as an independent, but all politicians say that sort of thing. You can’t believe anything they say now.

But, if she did run…who would it hurt most? Democrats or Trump?

I’d argue, based on her popularity with independent voters, that it may hurt Trump more.
