Comedian and actor Adam Sandler has returned to the big screen — and this time he is about to take on one of his most serious roles yet in the Safdie brothers’ thriller, Uncut Gems.

Sandler is known throughout the industry for comedy roles including Billy Madison, 50 First Dates, and his recent Netflix hit, Murder Mystery. But in Uncut Gem, he stars as Howard Ratner, a New York City jeweler who looks like he lives the life with the motto “no risk it, no biscuit.”

The A24 film, which premiered to strong reviews at the Telluride Film Festival in August, dropped their movie trailer on Tuesday and whether it was the music or the dangerous look of an out of control con man who looked like he was going deeper into trouble with each passing video clip, it raised the heartbeat.

The movie synopsis seems to suggests that Sandler’s character (Ratner), puts his family, career and own life on the line in a series of bets, some of which include working with NBA star, Kevin Garnett and music artist the Weeknd, who stars as himself in the film.

“I made a crazy risk, a gamble and it’s about to pay off,” Sandler character says in the trailer, describing one of his largest bets yet.

For Sandler, this role is a gritty reach and I can see him possibly being nominated for an Oscar already out of the box.
