Actor Richard Gere admonished Italy for not taking in illegal migrants and told the Italian government to “stop demonizing asylum seekers.”

Matteo Salvini, Italy’s deputy prime minister, responded to the so-called activist actor by telling him to take the migrants to Hollywood if he desires.

Gere recorded a message onboard a Spanish NGO ship, Proactiva Open Arms over the weekend about the importance of opening up a passage for migrants and asylum seekers who would be sent back to their own country if not given access. Gere met upwards of 160 illegals trying to get into Italy but had been stuck on the island of Lampedusa, Sicily for the last ten days.

Gere: The Italian government needed to stop “demonising people”

Salvini: “Given this generous millionaire is voicing concern for the fate of the Open Arms migrants; we thank him: he can take back to Hollywood, on his private plane, all the people aboard and support them in his villas. Thank you Richard!” he said in a statement.

Who the heck is Gere to dictate to Italy who should be allowed in? These migrants have caused nothing but problems in the other countries they invaded. If Gere and his Hollywood friends are so concerned, let them take them into their vast homes and pay for their upkeep. Surely, Brentwood and Beverly Hills can build some nice housing for them. There is a lot of people in this country that could use some water and food also, Richard. You have just shown use where your primary concern is, with them instead of us.

Gere also compared the crisis in the Mediterranean and the prohibition of landing migrants with the Trump administration’s policies on the border with Mexico: “We have our problems with refugees coming from Honduras, Salvador, Nicaragua, Mexico … It’s very similar to what you are going through here,” he said.

“This has to stop everywhere on this planet now. And it will stop if we say so,” Gere said, adding that he doesn’t want to get into a political fight.

On Saturday, Salvini, who last year declared Italy’s ports closed to migrant rescue ships, replied to the actor: “Given this generous millionaire is voicing concern for the fate of the Open Arms migrants, we thank him.”

Don’t even suggest that Gere bring them back to the United States to his property and support and take care of them because he won’t do it. Then again, he might do it for a little while, maybe two weeks and then let them loose into our communities so we can take care of them.

Gere as a “sometimes” actor should keep to his Buddhist Religion and leave the HEAVY thinking to those more intelligent than he! Most of the problems in the USA today and in the EU are caused by illegal immigration, which is stressing the finances of all countries involved!

Otherwise, I like this Salvini guy form Italy. Wish he were here in Maryland.
