When I saw Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez claimed that she was teaming up with Sen. Ted Cruz in an effort to stop Congress members from becoming lobbyists after they left, I was intrigued.
Pres. Trump told his supporters during the 2016 campaign that he was against lobbying and if you got elected he was going to make sure that anyone that served in his administration would sign a declaration preventing them from becoming a lobbyist when they left their office.
According to OpenSecrets.org, “President Donald Trump signed an Executive Order within his first days of office forbidding Executive Branch appointees from lobbying for five years after employment in the Administration. The Order also forbids former registered lobbyists now working in the White House from participating in areas they had previously lobbied on for a period of two years.”
For some reason, I thought that he meant Congress members also, but it did not.
Even though the pairing was weird to The Young Turks interviewer, Emma Vigeland, AOC claimed the meeting of the two camps is actually happening and they are working in concert to ban former members of Congress from serving as lobbyists.
AOC: “I think it really shows what the true spirit of not being partisan is and that bipartisanship doesn’t mean let’s come together to go to war and lower taxes on the rich. But bipartisanship means, okay, I will swallow all of my distaste in this situation. Because we have found a common interest.”
Both Cruz and AOC’s team met last week and it could be highly possible she’s trying to drain the swamp like Cruz. We shall see as we keep our eyes open for all the news and fresh developments.
