While Fox News claims the #1 network title for news, Black Enterprise claims biased and politically one-sided Roland Martin just got enough news to make his head swell even larger.
Before I get into this, I don’t buy the hype. Martin barely gets over 150 real-time viewers on his YouTube page. Here is a Sunday morning screenshot of his channel, and he’s being labeled at the top show for black viewers nationwide? I don’t see it.
Business Wire contends Martin” has over 100.7 million views with almost 435 million minutes viewed across YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram in that short timeframe. Martin believes he is providing a service digitally that is long overdue.”
Martin: “African Americans are tired of mainstream media ignoring the many issues impacting us on a daily basis. I conduct interviews with newsmakers and stream content related to criminal justice, health, politics and other topics that are extremely important to the Black community. My program fills the void left by mainstream media’s lack of resources and time to dedicate ongoing coverage of the myriad of issues facing African Americans.”
I have to admit when I saw this, I had to give my opinion because after Roland was released from CNN and had his show canceled on TV One, I have to ask, where is this coming from? Don’t take this opinion as “hate,” I don’t see how this adds up.
If it is true, I don’t understand why America wants to prop up these voices of division, but it seems like there is a hunger for it. Martin must have the right recipe for this news, but then again, I have to ask myself, how do they determine black vs. white viewers. Unless Martin is sending in his numbers and categorizing each viewer as black, I am sure he has some white liberal audience members watching his show.
Martin, a veteran broadcaster and journalist, just celebrated his one year anniversary of #RolandMartinUnfiltered in October. The platform has over 100.7 million views and 435 million minutes consumed across the social networks of Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube.
“African Americans are tired of mainstream media ignoring the many issues impacting us on a daily basis,” said Martin. “I conduct interviews with newsmakers and stream content related to criminal justice, health, politics, and other topics that are extremely important to the black community. My program fills the void left by mainstream media’s lack of resources and time to dedicate ongoing coverage of the myriad of issues facing African Americans.”
Martin was previously anchor and managing editor of NewsOne Now, a daily news television show that aired on Urban One’s TV network, TV One. The show ran for four years and at one point had expanded to two hours before the show was canceled in late 2017.
“Roland Martin is one the most important voices in black America today,” says Morial. “His insight and no-nonsense approach to bringing news and opinion to, for, and about black America is a welcome alternative to the sameness of many other journalists. His voice is respected, vital, and essential.” [Black Enterprise]
He blocked me years ago because I kept calling him out on his views. Here’s an example of his show:
