On Monday morning, a significant altercation broke out between a number of Secret Service members tasked with securing Vice President Kamala Harris, according to the agency. Before Harris got there, the fight had already started at approximately nine in the morning close to Joint Base Andrews, which is outside of Washington, DC.

When the agent, who has not been named, began acting aggressively, sources stated that the supervisor of the detail shift and the special agent in charge attempted to defuse the situation. But to make matters worse and spiral out of control, the concerned agent reportedly assaulted the Senior Agent in Charge of the security detail and then attacked him bodily.

During the confrontation, the agent allegedly kept his handgun holstered even though he was armed, until his comrades disarmed him. Later, the Vice President's detail agent on the Secret Service detail admitted that the agent had started "displaying behavior their colleagues found distressing."

The concerned agent, whose name has not been made public, was promptly "removed from their assignment" after the event, according to the Secret Service.

Anthony Guglielmi, US Secret Service head of communications, informed The New York Post that "a US Secret Service special agent supporting the Vice President's departure from Joint Base Andrews began displaying behavior their colleagues found distressing."

Harris was in her house at the Naval Observatory when the incident happened, according to the Secret Service. They said that the confrontation had no bearing on her travel arrangements.

"The U.S. Secret Service is extremely concerned about the health and safety of its employees." We will not provide any further information since there was a medical issue, Secret Service Chief of Communications Anthony Guglielmi said in a statement.

Guglielmi said that medical staff were sent to the spot. The agent in question had been to Joint Base Andrews to facilitate Harris's scheduled departure. She did not let the confrontation stop her from traveling, however.

Adding that it was a "medical matter," Guglielmi said the department would not go into specifics.

Following her itinerary, Harris traveled to New York City to attend an interview for "The Drew Barrymore Show."

RealClearPolitics reports that the agent in issue arrived acting "erratic" and then started acting violently, eventually taking control of the special agent overseeing the vice president's security detail and attacking him.

The agent was apparently restrained and given medical care after the event.

According to RealClearPolitics, many people questioned the agent's hiring procedure, including any background checks, after the confrontation. In addition, the report indicated that worries over the agent's conduct had existed for some time before Monday's occurrence.

Guglielmi claims that Harris was made aware of the circumstances.
